Train travel
Train travel during military or civilian service
Service journeys and personal travel use different booking rules. Start with the journey you are making.
| Journey | What to do |
|---|---|
| Military service | Use the Defence Forces booking code for eligible VR travel. |
| Conscript leisure travel | Without uniform: 30% off long-distance single tickets; 50% off VR commuter single tickets, with valid proof. |
| Non-military service | Ask your place of service about tickets for eligible journeys. Otherwise, eligible single tickets receive 30% long-distance or 50% VR commuter discount. |
Before you travel
Carry your documents
Use the valid conscript or non-military service card required for your journey. Follow the instructions with any call-up or service order.
Check the service boundary
These arrangements do not replace an HSL ticket. Discount percentages do not apply to night-train cabins.
Sources and conditions
These are VR rules, not HSL fare conditions. Check the operator’s current terms before buying.
