Find your way
Get your bearings, then choose your next connection.
Choose the correct side before you leave.
The station fronts Rautatienkatu on the city-centre side. The bus station and Raksila are east of the tracks, reached through the station underpass. Platform access includes a ramp and lift; check current signs during the rail-yard works.
Rautatienkatu
The waiting room, ticket machines, toilets and lockers are inside the station building. Start here for the live board, but check the platform before settling in: some routes require the underpass and lift or ramp.
Station underpass
Use the signed underpass to reach platforms and the east side of the railway. A ramp and lift support step-free access. Allow extra time with luggage or when works change a familiar route.
Bus station
The coach station is close to the railway but is a separate boarding place. OSL buses also use several named stops around the centre. Match the stop code and direction in the planner rather than assuming every bus leaves from the coach bays.
Trains
Oulu connects southbound services with journeys further north. Check your train, date and platform on the live board; use the journey search for connections instead of treating this guide as a timetable.
Find a trainBus
Use OSL’s planner for the boarding stop, direction and current route. City buses do not all share one station stop, and the ticket for local transport is separate from a standard VR train ticket.
Plan with OSLLong-distance coaches
Check the operator and bay on your coach ticket. The bus station is nearby on the Raksila side, but a short map distance still includes the underpass and finding the correct departure area.
OSL routes and travel noticesOulu Airport
Airport services and city routes can change by timetable season. Plan from the railway station to the terminal for your actual travel time, check the stop direction and keep a margin for airport check-in.

VR lists raised platforms, a wheelchair ramp and lift. Book assistance in advance. The meeting point is outdoors at the station’s southern end near drop-off parking and has no shelter, so plan for the weather.

At our 3 October 2026 review, VR said car-carrier trains to and from Oulu had been suspended since 1 April during rail-yard renovation, with an autumn reopening date still unconfirmed. Do not drive to Ratakatu 6 without checking your booking and VR’s latest notice.

Step into Oulu
A short pause or a whole day. Choose a visit that fits your journey.
A short stop
Confirm your next platform, use the station lockers if needed and walk only as far as the cathedral or central streets. A short connection does not need a full itinerary.
A few hours
Head towards Tiima and the art museum, or walk through the centre to the Market Square. Pick one cluster so the return to the station stays comfortable in northern weather.
A day in Oulu
Combine one museum with the Market Square, Pikisaari and the river-delta paths. Nallikari is a separate seaside outing: use the planner and keep enough time for the bus back.
Places to start with
Oulu Cathedral
The cathedral is a clear first landmark between the station and the river parks. Check parish opening information before planning an interior visit; services and events can affect visitor access.
Oulu highlights · Visit OuluTiima
Opening on 9 October 2026, Tiima brings together Tietomaa, Oulu Museum, a children’s museum and experience spaces. Check opening days and tickets before walking there, especially during its first weeks.
Tiima opening informationOulu Art Museum
The museum sits near the Hupisaaret parks and Tiima, making the district a practical culture choice for a few hours. Check exhibition changeovers, access and opening hours before your visit.
Plan an art museum visitMarket Square & Market Hall
Walk through the centre to the market waterfront, Toripolliisi statue and Market Hall. Seasonal businesses and cruises do not operate on one year-round timetable, so let the public space—not a promised service—anchor the visit.
Oulu’s central sightsPikisaari
Cross the pedestrian bridge from the Market Square into a former industrial island of wooden houses, workshops and artists. It is also residential: follow public routes and check individual venues before entering.
Explore PikisaariNallikari
The Bothnian Bay beach and Hietasaari paths make a distinct half-day outing rather than a quick station walk. Check the current OSL connection, weather and seasonal services before setting out.
