Salo: river, railway and radio
Arrive in Salo’s compact river centre, visit Veturitalli, and plan Teijo or the ironworks villages as separate regional journeys.

Start with the station city
Salo’s railway, Salonjoki and market-centre streets create a compact first visit. Check live Salo departures, then use the river and railway as simple orientation lines. Teijo, Mathildedal and the coast belong to the wider region, not the station walk.
Read before you go
VR lists raised platforms and step-free access to low-floor trains. Tracks 2 and 3 are reached by lifts through the underpass. The covered assistance point is beside track 1 at the Turku end of the station building, and drop-off can approach it; book at least 24 hours ahead. The station has a ticket machine but no toilet, luggage lockers or staffed VR service point.
Let Veturitalli carry the railway story
Salo Art Museum occupies a former locomotive roundhouse and turns the working railway landscape into the city’s clearest cultural anchor. Exhibitions and the smaller Sivuraide gallery change independently, and changeovers create closure periods. Confirm the exact day.
Add electronics history deliberately
Salo’s radio, television and electronics history is a different industrial chapter. Use the current museum information to decide whether it fits the same visit instead of presenting every collection as one railway attraction.
Build the regional journey before leaving
Teijo National Park and the ironworks villages are important Salo destinations, but their transport, opening days and return options vary by season. Use Waltti and the visitor information to verify a complete outward and return journey. A place appearing in Salo’s calendar does not make it walkable from the station.
What’s on in Salo
Veturitalli’s Visit the Light exhibition runs 3 October 2026–3 January 2027. The wider calendar includes city-centre and regional events; match each venue to a route before committing to it.
Sources and currency
Station and accessibility facts come from VR. Cultural, visitor, transport and event information comes from the City of Salo, Visit Salo and Waltti, checked 4 October 2026. Live boards and operator planners decide the current journey.
