Pieksämäki by train: junction, railway heritage and town
Change trains confidently at Pieksämäki and explore the old station, railway museum, roundhouse and compact town centre.

Begin with the connection
Pieksämäki is a four-direction railway junction. North–south services meet trains towards Jyväskylä and Joensuu, so a short stop is first an interchange and only then a city visit. Check live Pieksämäki departures, the current platform and any journey-specific replacement notice.
Read before you go
The waiting room is open Monday–Saturday 06:00–19:30 and Sunday 08:15–19:30. A ticket QR code opens its doors from one hour before departure until 12 hours afterwards. The ticket-machine foyer is open daily 05:00–22:45.
VR lists a toilet, lifts, raised platforms, accessible low-floor boarding and assistance booked at least 24 hours ahead. The assistance point is near platform 1 at the north end of the station building and has no shelter. There is no staffed VR point or luggage locker.
The railway story begins beside the platform
The old station dates from 1889 and houses the seasonal Savo Railway Museum. The nearby roundhouse and Veturitori continue the railway setting with events and services. Check opening dates and programmes: heritage buildings are not automatically open during every connection.
Build a compact town visit
The market square and Kulttuurikeskus Poleeni make a clear central visit. Wider trails and rural destinations are separate journeys requiring an outward stop, return stop and practical last connection.
What's on in Pieksämäki
The official city calendar is the source for dated events. Poleeni's autumn 2026 programme includes performances, concerts and changing exhibitions; confirm the selected event, ticket and accessibility information before travelling.
