Hanko: a car-free coastal day
Plan Hanko by train with the station’s accessibility limits, a compact coastal walk and realistic seasonal connections.

Read this before choosing the train
VR states that Hanko station has no raised platforms and no accessible entry from the platforms onto trains. Its station page lists no assistance service. If you need boarding help, contact VR before committing to the journey and confirm the actual train and stop. Start with live Hanko departures.
Arrive in the right Hanko
Hanko station is the practical arrival for the central villas, harbour and visitor services. Hanko-Pohjoinen is a separate stop. Choose it only when the exact address or onward connection is closer, and always check the live timetable.
Build one clear coastal walk
From the central station, use the wooden villas, water tower, harbour and nearest shoreline as a simple orientation sequence. Interior opening hours and tower access vary by season, so the streets and coast are the dependable experience. Choose one beach or shoreline route rather than turning the peninsula into a checklist.
Plan around weather, season and access
Surfaces, distance, wind and seasonal services differ across Hanko. Visit Hanko publishes an accessibility guide for beaches and services. The station itself remains the critical exception: a destination that is accessible in town does not make the train boarding accessible.
Keep remote history separate
Hanko Museum offers a central introduction to the town. The Front Museum is about 20 kilometres away and is not a station walk. Its opening is seasonal, and the visit needs a separate outward and return transport plan.
What’s on in Hanko
The Hanko Water 120 years exhibition runs at Hanko Museum from 18 June 2026 to 31 January 2027. Confirm the exact opening day in the official event calendar before travelling, because cultural hours vary by season.
Sources and currency
Station facilities and boarding limitations come from VR. Walking, accessibility, museum and event guidance comes from official Visit Hanko sources, checked 5 October 2026. Live boards and operator planners decide the current journey.
